Which is Better Walking or Running for Burning FAT?

Simply put, both running and walking while trying to cut the excess pounds are a good choice, however, running does burn far more calories and can have a greater effect on overall health. That being said, it’s important to understand the difference between “burning fat” and “losing fat,” as well as what it takes to actually lose weight. See the section on Win at weight Loss under weight management.

How Your Body Uses Calories

Walking is an excellent exercise for fat burning. While any exercise can burn calories, brisk walking for 45 minutes mobilizes the body to dip into fat reserves and burn stored fat. Walkers can also achieve the exercise intensity that uses more fat as fuel.

The Fat Burning Zone

The fat-burning zone is at 60-70% of your maximum heart rate. In this zone of exercise intensity, 85% of your calories burned are fats, 5% are proteins and 10% are carbohydrates.  When walking at a brisk pace, you’ll be breathing heavier, feeling increased exertion and beginning to perspire, but you’ll still be able to carry on a conversation. These are the tell-tale signs that you’re in this preferred zone. For high-intensity running, such as interval workouts for example, your body will rely more on carbs for fuel than fat because they’re a more readily available source of energy. For long, slower runs, your body starts using fat as an energy source.

What It Takes to Lose Fat by Running

It’s important to remember that when you’re trying to shed pounds it doesn’t matter what type of fuel you use. Just because you’re using more fat as energy doesn’t mean you’re losing fat or burning more calories. The simple fact is, in order to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you take in daily. As with running, or any other forms of exercise, the harder you work dictates the amount of calories you’ll burn.

You must also keep in mind that there are a few things to consider that will determine which is best for you to do as an individual to meet your weight loss goals – all which are predetermined by your personal ability.

Your Fitness Ability Determines Results

Matching your intensity for walking or running with your individual ability is key in a few ways. First, if you’re you a beginner, are overweight, have any current injuries, or have any pre-existing physical or medical conditions such as shin splints, a cardiovascular condition or osteoporosis, you’ll want to limit your intensity.

Next, you monitor success and increase intensity accordingly. This is where walking for weight loss has the clear edge due to the low impact it has on bones, joints and muscles while still increasing the benefits on overall health.

Time Spent

Whether walking or running, you’ll get the greatest benefit if you aim for thirty to sixty minutes each day, building on your intensity as you improve on your ability.

Should I avoid Fluoride in water & toothpaste?

Absolutely. As a Toxicologist, I advise my clients to avoid fluridated water, fluoride in toothpast, and all pesticides containing fluoride.

Fluoride is a neurotoxin, as well as excitotoxin which directly afect your thyroid, parathyroid, and pineal glands, as well as your adrenals, pancreas, and pituitary glands.

Your thyroid gland and its associated hormones are responsible for maintaining your body’s overall metabolic rate, and for regulating normal growth and development. As all metabolically active cells require thyroid hormones [T4 Throxine and T3 Triidothyronine that are regulated by TSH Thyroid Stimulating Hormone] for proper functioning, disruption of this system can have a wide range of effects on virtually every system of your body. Thyroid dysfunction is considered among the most prevalent of endocrine diseases. Fluoride has been linked to improper thyroid function by interering with Iodine, autisim, arthritis, osteopenia and osteoporosis. Using alkaline water filters can simply eliminate this problem.

Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup [HFCS]. Read Labels!

High Fructose Corn Syrup, a popular sweetener – one you eat and drink every day – could be deadly particulalry for diabetics.

Past studies connected HFCS to obesity and diabetes. But new research links it to something worse – a lethal form of cancer. HFCS negatively affects insulin, GABA, Leptin to increase cravings and increase fat storage as published in scientific literature. See Our Lunch & Learn Seminars section for major corporations worldwide.

You may be surprised to discover that HFCS can be found in the following products:

  • Baked goods
  • Tomato sauces
  • Soft drinks avoid all including diet drinks.
  • Cereals – Read Labels carefully!
  • Fruit drinks Avoid except home made.
  • Processed foods- TV dinners.

Proper Stress Management for the Hectic Lifestyle

The majority of adults today feel like they are constantly running a marathon. They jump out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off, and barely have enough time to shower, dress, and eat before running out the door to take the kids to school and get to work. Their entire day at work is filled with one hectic task after another, all with stressful deadlines that have to be met. They come home and have to deal with the kids, cook quick TV dinner in the microwave, go to any extracurricular activities the kids may be involved in, do laundry, and hopefully sink into bed at a decent hour. With our lives being this busy and this hectic, it is no wonder so many of us feel the negative effects of stress. The busier and more hectic your life becomes, the more stress you will have to deal with, so it may be time to take a look at your life and see what you can do to cut some stress out, and learn how to better handle the stress you can’t eliminate completely. See Our Lunch & Learn Seminars section for major corporations worldwide.

If you think that your busy lifestyle is contributing to your stress, then you first take a step back and look at what you are involved in. Don’t take on any new responsibilities or tasks, and learn how to say no and mean no. You shouldn’t feel guilty because you can’t do everything for every person who asks you for something, that is just the way life is. If you don’t take time for yourself, not only will you be unhappy, but sooner or later your health may start to spiral downward as well, and then you won’t be able to help anyone, maybe not even yourself.

Learn to prioritize your life, and cut out things that aren’t absolutely necessary. For example, if your children are involved in so many activities outside of school that you can’t keep up with who has to be where, then you may have to limit them to one extra activity each. Odds are, they may be feeling stressed by it all too, so you are doing them a favor as well. Make the necessary changes so that you have the time you need for yourself, and still accomplish what absolutely has to be done everyday as well.

Many people suffer from stress caused by their finances. One way to eliminate that stress is to look at where your money goes each week, and learn how to create a better budget and stick to it. Cut out expenses that aren’t essential, pay off those credit cards as soon as possible, and watch your stress levels start to go down!

Take the time to organize your home and your work space. Don’t lose precious time hunting down shoes, clothes, keys, or papers that you may need. Develop a policy of everything has a place and it needs to be in it, and enforce it.

Remember to take care of your own health. This includes taking daily vitamin supplements, getting plenty of rest, exercising, eating healthy foods, and seeing your doctor on a regular basis.

Learn to do relaxation exercises, such as deep breathing, yoga and put it to use often.

Couple the above remedies with a better positive mental attitude and a more positive outlook, and you should be on your way to a happier, less stressful life. Please see the wellness IQ Questionnaire in this website to manage your daily stress.

Avoid Salty Unhealthy Snacks

Salty snacks harm your heart in just 30 minutes

Just 30 minutes after you scarf down a salty snack, clear changes can be seen in your arteries, a new study shows.

Researchers found that salt-laden foods quickly impair the ability of blood vessels to widen even in people with normal blood pressure, according to the study published in this month’s The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

While the long term effects of this kind of impairment are unknown, the findings do show that salt has an impact even in people with healthy blood pressure, noted the study’s lead author, Kacie M. Dickinson, a researcher at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization in Adelaide , Australia .

Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup [HFCS]

One of principal arguments food corporations have used to defend high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is that it is chemically similar to table sugar. Manufacturers have stated repeatedly that HFCS contains at most 55% fructose, little different from white sugar’s 50% fructose makeup.

But as it turns out, the specific amount of fructose in HFCS for any particular food product has never been officially tested. And when researchers tested brand-name sodas, they found that the fructose content is actually 65% with high glycemic index.

This is actually pretty shocking news, and could further explain just why soda in particular is so extremely detrimental to your health. As it turns out, the fructose content of the high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) used in many popular soda brands has been sorely underestimated.

… Remember, high fructose corn syrup in the form of soda is the number one source of calories in the United States, and it is very likely the primary cause of the obesity epidemic.

A single can of soda per day can add as much as 15 pounds to your weight over the course of a single year, not to mention increase your risk of diabetes by 85%.

Avoid HFCS in breakfast cereals, biscuits, cookies, jams, and hundreds of processed foods to avoid Obesity, diabetes or better known as Diabecity. See Our Lunch & Learn Seminars section for major corporations worldwide.

Water: More Precious than Gold. Drink Alkaline Water!

the health benefits of waterThe Most Powerful Healing Substance Known To Man” The human body is primarily composed of water. Water is not only beneficial but also vital to life — only oxygen is more important to human survival. Water plays an enormous role in how well our body functions. Simply put, the more fresh water we drink, the healthier we become. Knowing all this, it never ceases to amaze me when I hear people saying they “forget” to drink water. Would these people need a reminder to breathe? Water increases not only the quality but also the length of our lives! Don’t believe me? Let’s take a closer look.

Which is better, butter or margarine?

I do not recommend either butter or margarine. Use olive oil instead.

butter, margarine, olive oil, vegtable oil,Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When the turkeys are killed, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings.

DO YOU KNOW…the difference between margarine and butter?

  • both have the same amount of calories.
  • Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.
  • Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study .
  • Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
  • Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!
  • Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavours of other foods. It is still saturated fat that will clog your arteries!!
  • Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine..

  • Very high in Trans fatty acids.
  • Triple risk of coronary heart disease.
  • Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)
  • Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold.
  • Lowers quality of breast milk.
  • Decreases immune response. Decreases insulin response.

And here’s the most disturbing fact…. HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!

Margarine is ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC..

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular s tructure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple o f things:

  • no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)
  • it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value ; nothing will grow on it Even those teeny weenie microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

What’s Your Body pH?

Test your body’s pH level using little pieces of pH paper that you place into your mouth. pH of 6.5-6.9 is acidic. This indicates that your eating/drinking habits is below normal. This is the illness zone.

PH of 7.1-7.4 is alklanine and it indicates that you are in the wellness zone.

Avoid eating processed foods, junk foods, sodas, coffee, trans fats, fried foods and stress which causes you to be acidic. Eat lots of fresh or steamed vegetables, fruits, whole grains. Achieving hydration, oxygenation, detox, alkaline pH are key steps to reach and stay in the wellness zone.

It’s vital to know your body’s pH, but it far more important to know how to control your ph level.

You see, if your body becomes too acidic you’ll be more prone to catching colds, to getting diseases, to getting fat, to being tired, sluggish, fatigued, stressed, and full of body aches and pains. [Read more...]

Accidental Poisoning

acetaminophen, drug poisoning, accidential poisoningValuable health information – Facts about safety

News of the Day … In Perspective
Acetaminophen causes more than half the acute liver failure
in the United States
12/24/2005

The manufacturer of Tylenol has voluntarily upgraded warnings that large doses of acetaminophen can cause irreversible liver failure.

“More children under four die of accidental poisonings at home than are accidentally killed with guns at home.”
—National Safety Council

According to the Arizona Poison Control and Drug Information Center and the U.S. FDA, acetaminophen toxicity annually causes 56,600 ER visits, 26,000 hospitalizations, and 458 deaths in the United States (Ariz Daily Star 12/18/05).

Adults should take no more than 4 gm (8 “extra strength” tablets daily). Those with impaired liver function or regular alcohol use should take no more than 2 gm per day. Anyone who takes more than three alcoholic drinks a day is advised to avoid acetaminophen entirely.

A 6-year multicenter study showed that acute liver failure cases attributable to acetaminophen increased from 28 percent in 1998 to 51 percent in 2003 (Larson AM, Hepatology 2005;42:1364-1372).

Intentional overdoses are generally recognized earlier and can be treated successfully with N-acetylcysteine. Unintentional overdoses are likely to have a worse outcome.

Sixty-three percent of accidental overdoses result from prescription narcotic/acetaminophen combinations. Many patients do not recognize the hazard of combining these with over-the-counter agents.

Efforts to limit the over-the-counter package size and to restrict the prescription of narcotic-acetaminophen combinations (or to separate the narcotic from the acetaminophen) may be necessary to lower the incidence of this increasingly recognized but preventable cause of acute liver failure,” study authors concluded.
