Pheromones are volatile, odorous substances which are released by one animal and detected by another, causing some sort of physiological reaction. These reactions can manifest themselves in a variety of different ways: some pheromones modulate sexual activity, some affect aggression, some play roles in territory marking, and other pheromones have similarly diverse effects on the target animal. Pheromones have been demonstrated in a very large number of organisms ranging from amoebas to fish to mammals, including primates. However, the question of whether human olfactory signals exist has been a question of much debate and few definite conclusions. In this paper I will look at some possible examples of odor signaling in humans.

Mammals of all sorts use olfactory signals to indicate willingness to copulate, define territory, mark their young, and signal aggressive intent. These processes can be seen in many animals used as models for human systems, including rats, monkeys (both Old World and New World), hamsters and mice. The fact that pheromones are important biological signals in a plethora of other species indicates that the possibility of human pheromones should not be discarded lightly.

Although humans generally rate olfaction as their least important sensory modality, we still spend billions of dollars, years of our life, and a considerable amount of effort to modify the way we smell (at least in industrialized countries). These efforts typically include scrubbing with deodorant soaps and scented shampoos, applying deodorants to those parts of our bodies we feel need deodorizing, and finally applying perfumes and sprays to replace those natural odors we just discarded down the shower drain.

A pheromone is a chemical an animal produces which changes the behavior of another animal of the same species (animals include insects). Some describe pheromones as behavior-altering agents. Many people do not know that pheromones trigger other behaviors in the animal of the same species, apart from sexual behavior.

Pheromones, unlike most other hormones are ectohormones – they act outside the body of the individual that is secreting them – they impact a behavior on another individual. Hormones usually only affect the individual that is secreting them.

Pheromones can be secreted to trigger many types of behaviors, including:

Alarm
To follow a food trail
Sexual arousal
To tell other female insects to lay their eggs elsewhere. Called epideictic pheromones
To respect a territory
To bond (mother-baby)
To back off
Sexual attraction may be more science than seduction, making “chemistry” between people a reality. National Public Radio reported that scientists in 1959, first identified chemical triggers sent and received by living organisms, and named them pheromones. Pheromones are chemicals sent from one body to another, within the same species, and are used to communicate danger, marking territory or attracting a mate. The good news is you may have control over how you attract a mate by the foods you eat.

Natural Pheromones

Pheromone research in humans has primarily focused on natural chemicals and odors that are concentrated in the skin, the largest organ of the human body. According to the December 31, 2008 “Journal of Neuroscience,” an MRI study of female brains, conducted by Dr. Chen from Rice University in Houston, showed a strong, unconscious response to male sexual sweat vs. little to no response to other types of male sweat, such as through exercising.

Gustav Jäger (1832-1917), a German doctor and hygienist is thought to be the first scientist to put forward the idea of human pheromones. He called them anthropines. He said they were lipophilic compounds associated with skin and follicles that mark the individual signature of human odors. Lipophilic compounds are those that tend to combine with, or are capable of dissolving in lipids.

Researchers in the University of Chicago claimed that they managed to link the synchronization of women’s menstrual cycles to unconscious odor cues and food cravings. principal kinds of pheromones:

Releaser pheromones – they elicit an immediate response, the response is rapid and reliable. They are usually linked to sexual attraction.
Primer pheromones – these take longer to get a response. They can, for example, influence the development or reproduction physiology, including menstrual cycles in females, puberty, and the success or failure of pregnancy. They can alter hormone levels. In some mammals, scientists found that females who had become pregnant and were exposed to primer pheromones from another male, could spontaneously abort the fetus.
Signaler pheromones – these provide information. They may help the mother to recognize her newborn by scent (fathers cannot usually do this). Signaler pheromones give out our genetic odor print.
Modulator pheromones – they can either alter or synchronize bodily functions. Usually found in sweat. In animal experiments, scientists found that when placed on the upper lip of females, they became less tense and more relaxed. Modulator hormones may also affect a female’s monthly cycle.

Our bodies produce thousands of chemicals that control impulses necessary for everyday function and sensory navigation. Endorphins, a multi-functional chemical, are emitted to counteract and deal with sensations by transmitting electrical impulses through the body to the nervous system. One of their duties is to help combat pain, much in the same way as morphine or codeine does. Endorphins are also responsible for producing the euphoric feeling one usually experiences after sex, or after an intense work out (often referred to as “runners-high”). Rigorous work outs not only keep us in shape, but also decrease our stress level due to the endorphins released into the body during the exercise. Other ways to trigger the release of these hormones is through the practice of meditation, acupuncture, and massage therapy.

Food and Endorphins
Certain foods have a direct effect on one’s mood. Like exercise and meditation, food such as cookies, cake, chocolate, candy (known as pleasure foods) can bring a person out of the worst mood. This occurrence is not simply due to the delightful sensation of dessert on the tongue together with the awakening of our taste buds. It is largely due to the chemical reaction that occurs in our brain when we eat sugar. The signal causes the body to release endorphins and dopamine giving the consumer a sense of exhilaration, otherwise known as a “sugar rush”. The addiction felt by those who eat these types of foods regularly is the result of the body craving not only the sugar, but also the wonderful euphoric feeling that is brought on by the brain’s reaction to the sugar being consumed.
Low endorphin levels make us crave fatty foods and or sweet foods.
High concentrations of endorphins in the brain produce a sense of euphoria, enhance pleasure, and suppress pain, both emotionally and physically. When endorphins are low, people feel anxious; they are also more aware of pain. They have an appetite for fat and fatty foods, such as fries, cheese, creamy sauces, margarine, butter, fried chicken, potato chips, and chocolate, to name some of the most popular examples. Upon eating some fat, they will notice a change in mood, feeling more pleasure. This feeling is related to a higher concentration of endorphin. Exercise, by releasing fat from within the body, raises endorphins and causes the same mood changes.

When we have cravings for potato chips and chocolate, it may mean that we need an endorphin pill rather than all the empty calories from chips. Well, there’s a problem. We don’t have an endorphin pill. But we have something even better; knowledge of how to deal with these specific types of cravings.
Low serotonin levels make us crave sugar

Similarly, another hormone, serotonin and sometimes Dopamine makes us feel calm, poised, confident, and relaxed. When our serotonin/dopamine levels are low, we feel nervous, irritable and stressed. We don’t crave fat, now we crave sugar.

When we have cravings for sugar, we can use frozen yogurt or popcorn may help raise serotonin/dopamine levels with far less calories.
Low dopamine make us feel foggy. Mentally “foggy” at times? This just may be caused by low dopamine levels. When we don’t get adequate protein, dopamine levels drop and this makes us mentally sluggish. When we feel mentally sluggish, we crave sugar and fat.

The best way to raise dopamine levels, get plenty of lean protein in you diet, with moderate fat and carbohydrates
It’s a mistake to think that exercising without adequate carbs in your system will help you lose body fat.

Many people mistakenly believe that if they limit their carbohydrate intake, and then exercise, their body fat will be broken down. What happens, in fact, is that they are lowering their capacity to burn fat, and will lower their metabolism. The reason for this is that the body will break down muscle to form carbohydrate. In addition, the muscle breakdown raises stress hormone levels and causes carbohydrate cravings.

In fact, over half a billion dollars is spent annually on this type of remedy. What is in these drugs and are they doing us more harm than good? Are there more effective and natural remedies we can use to alleviate headaches?

Ingredients in Conventional Headache Medication

There are two main ingredients in the leading headache medications. These are Acetysalicylic Acid (aspirin) andAcetaminophen (tylenol). Today, an estimated 80,000 tons of these two ingredients are being consumed each year.

The main side effects of Acetysalicylic Acid can include, but are not limited to: gastrointestinal ulcers, stomach bleeding, severe abdominal or stomach cramps/pain/discomfort, heartburn or indigestion, bruising, confusion, dizziness, fainting, nausea or vomiting, buzzing or ringing in ears, tiredness or weakness, loss of hearing, allergic reaction, bleeding, etc. You can view the first-hand clinical research on 50+ adverse effects associated with Acetylsalicylic Acid.

The main side effects of Acetaminophen can include, but are not limited to: nausea and vomiting, appetite loss, sweating, diarrhea, irritability, abdominal pain, yellow eyes or skin, liver failure, kidney failure, heart problems, ulcers, bleeding in the digestive tract, coma, seizures, death, etc. Additionally, you can view the first-hand clinical research both on the adverse effects of Acetaminophen and natural substances which mitigate them.

Please also note that these symptoms do not necessarily have to manifest instantly after taking them. Continuous use of these products can slowly wreck havoc on your system.

Causes of Headaches

In some cases a headache may be a symptom of a more serious underlying disorder, but often headaches are caused by stress, dehydration, tiredness, poor posture, caffeine, alcohol, drugs, food allergy, eyestrain, sinusitis, poor nutrition, or low blood sugar.

Alternative Remedies

Ginger = Traditional Chinese herbal medicine recommends ginger for headaches. Eat a small piece of fresh ginger root or make ginger tea from the fresh root or tea bags.

Coriander Seeds = An Aryuvedic treatment for sinus-related headaches is the steam inhalation of coriander seeds. Put the coriander seeds into a small bowl. Pour on some boiling water, drape a towel over your head and the bowl, and inhale the steam.

Celery = Celery contains phthalide which helps you to relax and be less anxious, which helps with pain. It is also rich in potassium which many headache sufferers are deficient in. Celery seeds can be used in smoothies/juices or soups. Taking 2 oz of celery juice and then laying down for 30 minutes has proven to be a very effective remedy for headaches.

Herbal = Sitting down with a relaxing cup of mild herbal tea is often good for a tension headache. Good choices are peppermint, spearmint, chamomile, rose hip, lemon balm, or valerian root (may induce sleep). Additionally, adding cayenne pepper to your tea can help.

Vitamins and Minerals = Frequent headaches could be a sign that you are low on some important vitamins and minerals. Low levels of niacin and vitamin B6 can cause headaches. For example, all the B vitamins are needed to help combat stress and avoid tension headaches. The minerals calcium and magnesium work together to help prevent headaches, especially those related to a woman’s menstrual cycle. Good sources of calcium are dark green leafy vegetables, such as kale or broccoli, and beans and peas. Magnesium is found in dark green leafy vegetables, cacao, nuts, bananas, wheat germ, full spectrum salts, beans and peas.

Aromatherapy = The relaxing qualities of lavender oil make it a good treatment for a tension headache. This essential oil is very gentle and can be massaged in your temples, the base of your neck, or the base of your nostrils. Taking a bath with relaxing oils such as chamomile or ylang ylang will also help to soothe and relieve pain.

Emotional Freedom Technology (EFT – a.k.a Meridian Tapping) = The EFT tapping points align with particular acupuncture points along the meridians. EFT tapping techniques can help to remove emotional blockage in our body’s electrical or subtle energy system. EFT is referred to as ‘acupuncture without the needles’. For more information on EFT and where to find your meridian points, please visit The Tapping Solution.

Breathing = In order to learn how to relax and cope with headaches, you need to become familiar with your own breathing patterns and change them in ways that will help you relax. We tend to hold our breath when we are anxious, stressed, or in pain. Below are a few relaxation exercises:

Rhythmic breathing = If your breathing is short and hurried, slow it down by taking long, slow breaths. Inhale slowly then exhale slowly. Count slowly to five as you inhale, and then count slowly to five as you exhale. As you exhale slowly, pay attention to how your body naturally relaxes. Recognizing this change will help you to relax even more.

Deep breathing = Imagine a spot just below your navel. Breathe into that spot, filling your abdomen with air. Let the air fill you from the abdomen up, then let it out, like deflating a balloon. With every long, slow exhalation, you should feel more relaxed.

Visualized breathing = Find a comfortable, quiet place where you can close your eyes, and combine slowed breathing with your imagination. Picture relaxation entering your body and tension leaving your body. Breathe deeply, but in a natural rhythm. Visualize your breath coming into your nostrils, going into your lungs and expanding your chest and abdomen. Then, visualize your breath going out the same way. Continue breathing, but each time you inhale, imagine that you are breathing in more relaxation. Each time you exhale imagine that you are getting rid of a little more tension.

These are just a few natural remedies. There are many more. However, prior to any of these recommendations we should always ensure that we are getting enough pure water throughout the day. It seems simple, but dehydration is the leading cause of headaches. By simply drinking more water during the day, we may reduce the frequency of headaches and their debilitating effects. Please note that some of the food items mentioned, such as bananas, cacao, and nuts can actually trigger headaches in some individuals. If this happens to you, don’t give up. With a little research, you will definitely be able to find the remedy that works best for you. In fact, GreenMedInfo.com lists two dozen natural substances that have been researched clinically on Headaches.

Trusting in our Natural Ability to Heal

Our bodies are an amazing design. If we allow ourselves to trust our bodies’ ability to heal itself, the results will be astounding. Let’s treat our body with the respect and loving care it deserves. If we do, symptoms such as headaches will occur much less frequently.

In a recent article published at the American Journal of clinical nutrition, a correlation between the consumption of soft drinks has contributed to the increase risk of Coronary heart disease, diabetes and obesity.

Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs), or soft drinks, include carbonated and noncarbonated beverages that contain sugar-based caloric sweeteners and are flavored with fruit juice or natural or artificial flavors. These beverages currently contribute 9.2% of total energy intake in the United States—an increase from 3.9% in the late 1970s. In fact, on average, SSBs are the top energy contributor in the US diet . Previous epidemiologic studies have found a positive association between SSBs and weight gain and obesity in both children and adults. In addition, a higher consumption of SSBs has been linked to an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Because obesity and type 2 diabetes are important risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD), we hypothesized that regular consumption of SSBs is associated with an increased risk of CHD. SSBs can also influence the risk of CHD, independent of obesity, as a potential contributor to a high glycemic load, which has been linked to higher concentrations of the inflammatory marker C-reactive protein and an increased risk of diabetes and CHD. Short-term trials that changed the dietary fiber or sucrose content or body weight have been shown to change the concentrations of inflammatory markers. Inflammation is not only involved in atherosclerosis, but also affects plaque stability and thrombosis, which may respond to lifestyle changes more quickly than atherosclerosis. Therefore, both recent and cumulative measures of SSB might affect CHD risk.

To examine whether SSB consumption is associated with CHD, and whether the relation is independent of obesity and diabetes, we prospectively assessed the intake of sweetened beverages and CHD in middle-aged women with detailed measures of lifestyle and dietary factors. Because soft drinks were the major SSB consumed in this cohort, we particularly emphasized this type of beverage.

In this large prospective cohort study of women, we observed a significant positive association between regular consumption of SSBs and risk of CHD. This association remained significant even after adjustment for a multitude of dietary and lifestyle factors. Additional adjustment for the BMI and energy intake score somewhat attenuated this association, which suggested that excess calorie intakes and obesity mediate the association. In addition, we observed a small and nonsignificant association between consumption of artificially sweetened beverages and risk of CHD after multivariate adjustment.

A study just published, which is part of the ongoing Health Professionals Follow-up Study, has examined the association between sugar-sweetened beverages and incident coronary heart disease (CHD) defined as fatal and non-fatal heart attacks.
Over 42,000 men were followed for 22 years with food frequency questionnaires ever 4 years and state of health and lifestyle ascertainment every 2 years and fatalities identified from the National Death Index. Men in the top quartile of consumption
(median of about one drink per day—range 4.5/week to 7.5/day) had a 20% relative risk increase in the CHD endpoints which was reduced to 18% after correcting for a wide variety of confounders.
They also found a positive association with a number of inflammatory markers and as well increased triglycerides and decreased HDL, all of which may provide insight into the mechanism.

Switching from soft drinks to water with lemon can prevent the incidence of heart disease, diabetes and obesity. We evaluate the state of hydration for our clients using Biofeedback and encourage them to modify their eating and drinking habits.

The NIH guidelines for pediatric cardiovascular risk reduction report deals with their position on cholesterol, lipids and lipoproteins.

These guidelines are similar to those published in 2008 by the American Academy of Pediatrics which has been promoting
pediatric use of statins for some time to control high cholesterol.

These young individuals cannot nor can they be expected to give informed consent. This must be given by parents who in many cases lack the information required to make intelligent, informed judgements. Children are special since throughout childhood and well into adolescence they are undergoing complex biological development processes which are vulnerable to adverse influences by
exogenous chemicals including drugs. But children are viewed by the drug industry as a huge market only partially exploited. Until recently, Merck was working hard to get each U.S. state legislature to make school entry impossible, for example into the upper grades, without having a HPV vaccination.
They recently abandoned this after considerable backlash but not before two states and the D.C. took away from parents the right to decide unless they were able to meet the op-out requirements. Another example concerns depression and ADHD medications. They represent one pediatric marketing triumph, although this may be unravelling. Few prominent psychiatrists have started promoting the view concerning over-diagnosis, overtreatment, serious side effects and limited efficacy.
All that is required is more guidelines bearing some stamp of official approval that pediatricians and general practitioners can follow. The NHLBI guidelines just issued seem to be a perfect example. At the beginning of the lengthy NHLBI report, a list of members of the expert panel is presented along with their potential conflicts of interest. Seven of the fourteen members, including the chair of the panel, declared ties, frequently multiple, with drug companies. In the past, this situation has always prompted criticism from critics and raised questions as to the interpretation and completeness of the cited literature and the potential for “spin” in framing the guidelines.

Childhood development is extraordinarily complex and continues until late adolescence. One can argue that during this critical period it is not a good idea to introduce therapy involving chemicals unknown to human biochemistry which potentially will be taken for a number of years without convincing evidence of either benefit or very strong evidence of the absence of long-term adverse
effects. The former requires randomized controlled trials with event endpoints—an impossibility. The demonstration of the absence of adverse effects is equally impossible since a complete analysis of the impact of therapy on childhood development and the demonstration of the absence of adverse effects that become apparent only after a number of years cannot be achieved.

Improving lifestyle choices, proper eating and drinking habits and using natural methods to prevent obesity and lower cholesterol in young children are much better alternative than recommending medications with potential side effects in these precious early years.

We help children in our clinics worldwide through Biofeedback and life style modification to control high cholesterol, obesity, ADD & ADHD Naturally.

Several of our clients who were suffering from Osteopenia and Osteoporosis were able to reverse their condition naturally within 6-9 months.
Taking high bio available calcium, magnesium and vitamin D3 and avoiding flour, sugar, soft drinks, coffee, alcohol as well as all acid foods are essential to prevent and reverse Osteopenia & Osteoporosis. Consuming plenty of raw or steamed vegetables, almonds and walnuts are also recommended.
The #1 cause for Osteoporosis is the overuse of medications. All prescription drugs put the body into an ‘acid state’. When the body is in an acidic state, your bodies automatic response system is to buffer that acidity by pulling calcium and minerals from the bones. The skeletal structure of the body is a “calcium bank”. When the body’s condition becomes too acidic, it makes compensating withdrawals of calcium from the bones, leaving them brittle and subject to breakage. Bone is made from glial cells (liquid crystals) in the proper combinations of calcium and phosphorus. When just the calcium is removed the remaining bone becomes highly phosphorus and it becomes weak. Over acidity can also be avoided by eating more alkaline forming foods.

Consuming alkaline foods, exercise, and avoiding obesity are essential in preventing Osteoporosis. The best remedy is to drink Alkaline water daily. Acid free Alkaline water is the universal solvent to flush toxins/poisons out of our body and at the same time help keep the body’s pH between 7.0 to 7-4.
Pregnant women lose a lot of alkaline minerals. The ingestion of Alkaline water is highly recommended.
We use Biofeedback at our clinics to detect and correct early sign of Osteopenia and Osteoporosis.

Use one Tablespoon of [Olive Oil + Apple cider Vinegar + Lemon Juice] + a dash of Cayaane Pepper on your salads daily. Add Lemon to your water daily.

You can also use Milk Thistle to detox your liver every quarter.

Avoiding food additives, medications, pesticides is the best way to protect your liver health and avoid overload.
Detoxification diets, just like other types of diets, vary in their approach. While some limit a person to filtered or distilled water for a day or two of fasting, others may have their own special concoctions (lemon juice, herbs, high fiber, others) and allow a narrow range of fruit, vegetables, nutritional drinks and vitamins. Some even advise laxatives, enemas or colonics in an attempt to rid the body of toxins. These diets can last several days or several weeks. Solid foods are often discouraged during the majority of the dirt, and are slowly reintroduced when the detox phase is completed.

Many proponents of detox diets support the view that our bodies are exposed to and accumulate toxins in everyday life. This may occur from the foods we eat (highly processed or others containing chemicals, preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, etc.), liquids we drink (refined sugars, artificial sweeteners, chemicals, other additives), air we breathe (air pollutants), cosmetics we use, and the indoor or outdoor environments in which we live and work. As a result, they theorize the toxins end up accumulating in our bodies (liver, skin, hair, fatty tissue, digestive, lymph and other systems), leading to a loss of energy, health problems (acne, arthritis, depression, headaches, others) and a decreased quality of life. So, their hope is to help a person feel better by utilizing various (and scientifically unproved) methods to rid our bodies of these potentially harmful substances.
