Vitamin C Dosage

There isn’t much point of taking mega doses of Vitamin C and you might be harming yourself. A lot of the new info out says that more than 2,000mgs of Vitamin C could be harmful.

I take 1,000mgs of C a day in divided doses because I have a connective tissue disorder, and I’m prone to scurvy-like symptoms – but I really think that if you get 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, most people are gonna come out way ahead….and in a pill, I would say 500 is more than plenty….that does seem to be the top end of what people should take – I’ve seen the data, its pretty convincing…

Note, I said Vitamin C – not foods that contain vitamin C….there is a big difference biochemically between the two….

Read some more recent materials. Paulings most recent work is over twenty years old….in science, thats ancient
Although Vit. C is water soluble and reasonably safe to take, I do not recommend exceeding 2000mg daily. Usually 1000mg/day is an ideal dose. Excess dosage may cause stool softenning and if you eat shrimp excess vit. C may increase arsenic level found naturally in sea foods.
In some people taking 5000 mg dosage may cause stomach discomfort even loose stool.
Take vitamin C at daily recommended dosage which is vital for your health & Wellness.
Vitamin C megadosage: up to 20 grams or more per day under the assumption it leads to optimal health or healing of some condition. The dosage is usually divided and consumed in portions over the day. Injections of hundreds of grams per day are advocated by some physicians for therapy of certain conditions, poisonings, and recovery from trauma. People who practice vitamin C megadosage may consume many vitamin C pills throughout each day or dissolve pure vitamin C crystals in water or juice and drink it throughout the day.
There is no reliable scientific evidence that large amounts of vitamin C (up to 10 grams/day in adults) are toxic. In the year 2000, the US Food and Nutrition Board recommended a tolerable upper intake level (UL) for vitamin C of two grams daily in order to prevent most adults from several health & safety issues such as experiencing osmotic diarrhea and gastrointestinal disturbances.
I recommend taking a daily dose of 1000-2000mg/day for optimal health.
